so i watched a very intriguing and ambitious new documentary today called 'zeitgeist.' as with many documentaries these days, there is a A LOT of truth in this movie, but it is NOT the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. at the very least, it brings up a ton of very important questions: specifically, how christianity was really invented; what actually happened on 9/11 and since then; the influence of international bankers on our politics and society; more generally, how to interpret what's going on in the world around us.
this movie is much more than just a conspiracy theorist's wild dream, although there are definitely aspects of that. this documentary is free of charge, and click on the title of this post to watch all 1 hour and 56 minutes of it.
the movie is broken into 3 parts:
part I - modern religions in general, and christianity in particular, were basically copied from egyptian and greek mythologies and are concoctions intended to control citizens. (i agree with approximately 40% of this part of the film, although that does NOT mean that i do not respect the opinions of my many religious friends and family!).
part II - 9/11 was an "inside job" that could NOT have occurred but for the united states' government providing resources to make it happen. most notably, this film claims that 6 of the alleged hijackers are still alive. (i agree with about 30% of this part of the film).
part III - international bankers, especially american bankers, have controlled governments for the past 200+ years. most notably, american bankers funded both sides of WWII, and war is GREAT business for banks, giving banks a huge incentive to motivate them to press our political leaders to engage in aggressive foreign policy decisions. specifically, that FDR knew about pearl harbor in advance, or at least provoked the japanese into attacking us in order to help the banking community of which his family was a significant part. (i agree with about 20% of this part of the film).
here is a GREAT review.
one issue brought up in this movie that definitely persuaded me to change me mind was the 9/11 commission. up until now, i really had thought they had done a pretty good job. this movie really makes me think that they did a tremendously sloppy job.
please let me know if you take the time to watch it so that we can further discuss the movie's assertions. to be crystal clear, i do NOT claim to believe everything (or even most) of the assertions made in this movie, but i really like the tone of it and think that it is extremely helpful for people to be asking the types of questions that are asked and to attempt to explain what's really going on around us.

Bout effing time. I've been listening to it at work today. I'll report back should I have anything interesting to say....
Jay Kinney got nothing on Walker!
i watched this documentary recently online as well. part one is awesome. the coincidences are amazing and i'm sure very startling to some religious people. i think it asks some very serious questions that everyone should challenge themselves to look into. questioning your beliefs is one of the most important things a person can do. blind faith is a borderline psychosis imo. i believe there are books written about this exact topic out there as well. nice to see you back at work. -anthony
Georgie:
Look forward to watching the documentary. Welcome back. For anybody that is interested in a decent book that explains the origin of banking and the role big banks play in war, check The Creature from Jekyll Island.

Why has it become so fashionable for intelligent, educated people to consume anti-American and/or anti-corporate propaganda and think they are watching documentaries? This film comes from the same mold as Fahr 9/11, Inconvenient Truth, and Why We Fight--all well made films that are provocative and interesting but all of which also fit the definition of propaganda: "ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause" (Webster's). C'Mon folks; wake up and smell the Goebbels.
tony, have you seen this movie/documentary? i agree it probably doesn't make sense to label it a documentary, and i went out of my way to say that i don't buy into most of the premises that are laid out in this flic. however, i don't see this movie as remotely falling into the category of anti-american or anti-corporate. the attempt is surely to question those in society with power/money/control, and it's for the audience to judge whether that argument is successful or not. i agree that fahrenheit 9/11 was largely a load of crap, even though it was well made and logical at times. no harm in watching something with which you don't totally agree, right?
definition of 'argument' by dictionary.com: "an address or composition intended to convince or persuade."
tony, if you're not persuaded by this movie's arguments, that's fine. i wasn't either to a large extent. and that qualifies it as a weak argument. but that doesn't mean it is propaganda.
you might want to watch the movie or read the review i posted before labeling something propaganda.
An argument set to music or presented in a dramatic fashion specifically intended to enhance its impact is propaganda. Honest people trying to convince other people of the merits of their points of view do it by writing op-eds, blogs, or debating. Dishonest people who can't win honest arguments or elections make slick movies that manipulate and control the environment in which the argument is presented to make fun of those who disagree with their viewpoints. Go read Dr. Goebbels theories on propaganda and the use of modern mass media before asserting that propaganda is harmless.
where did i assert that "propaganda is harmless"???? this movie doesn't qualify as propaganda...
tony....it's absolutely ridiculous that you cite an inconvenient truth in you list of "propaganda"...talk about un-american!
georgie, you said in your reply to my first post: "no harm in watching something with which you don't totally agree" and you were referring to Fahrenheit 9/11--which is also propaganda. The fact that you don't recognize or acknowledge Zeitgeist for what it is underscores how harmful propaganda can be.
And I said anti-American, not un-American. Inconvenient Truth is a political argument masquerading as a scientific documentary--that deception is what makes it propaganda.
"that deception is what makes it propaganda."
Sorry Tony-99.9% of the world's scientists, regardless of their political ideology, do not refute this "propaganda."
